Prepare for a smooth mobile notary appointment
Most failed notarizations are preventable. Five minutes of preparation can protect everyone's time and reduce the risk that a document must be corrected or signed again.
Step 1
Confirm the document and notarial act
Make sure every page and attachment is present and that material blanks are completed. If the certificate does not say whether an acknowledgment or jurat is required, ask the receiving party or document preparer before the visit.
Do not ask the notary to choose the act for you. That choice can affect the legal meaning and may constitute legal advice.
Step 2
Gather each signer's original identification
Every signer should have an original form of identification acceptable under Florida law. Check expiration and name consistency before confirming the appointment. A phone photo or photocopy of an ID is not the original credential.
Step 3
Arrange document witnesses separately
If the document requires witnesses, confirm the number and qualifications with the document preparer. Witnesses should be present with acceptable identification and should not be assumed to be available at a hospital, office, or public meeting place.
Step 4
Prepare the location and all signers
Choose a clean, well-lit surface. Every signer must be present, willing, alert, and able to communicate. For facilities, islands, gated communities, marinas, and job sites, provide complete access directions and a reliable on-site contact.
- Leave jurat signatures unsigned until the notary arrives
- Have all signers and witnesses arrive before the appointment time
- Keep pets, interruptions, and background noise under control
- Confirm parking, gate codes, room numbers, tolls, and ferry timing

Florida law prohibits notarizing a signature on an incomplete or blank document. Complete material information before the appointment, while leaving the actual signature blank when it must be made in the notary's presence.
Does every signer need to be present at the same time?
Each signer must personally appear for that signer's notarization. Depending on the document, separate appointments may be possible, but the receiving party should confirm whether that is acceptable.
Can I use a digital photo of my driver license?
A photo is not the original identification credential. Bring the physical ID or discuss a lawful alternative before the notary begins traveling.
